We're the Same Inside

We're the Same Inside introduces the concepts of same and different and attempts to influence children to be
accepting of physical differences. It refers to our bodies (our skin, hands, chin, hair, voice, and mind)and how they
are the same in some ways and different in others. Have the children repeat the names and touch the body parts,
following the song's words. Encourage them to sing along with the children's chorus and respond to the question,
"What are you thinking?" For a printable version of the lyrics click here

You're you. I'm me. We're as different as can be
I'm tall. You're small. But size doesn't really matter at all

We're the same inside. We love and laugh and cry
We've got hands and feet, hearts that beat, and minds that wonder why
We're the same inside. We love and laugh and cry
But it's easy to see. You're different from me.
You're skin is not like mine

Your skin, my skin, black or white, red or brown
Smooth or rough, it's nice to touch
I like your skin very much

Your hands, hands - young or old they're nice to hold
Plump or skinny, big or small
The size of your hands doesn't matter at all

We're the same inside. We love and laugh and cry
We've got hands and feet, hearts that beat, and minds that wonder why
We're the same inside. We love and laugh and cry
But it's easy to see. You're different than me.
You're chin is not like mine

Your chin, my chin, some chins are very thin
Pointed chins, chubby chins
Some folks have dimples in their chins

Your hair, my hair, straight or curly, let's compare
Short or long, dark or fair
I like the way you wear your hair

We're the same inside. We love and laugh and cry
We've got hands and feet, hearts that beat, and minds that wonder why
We're the same inside. We love and laugh and cry
But it's easy to see. You're different than me.
You're voice is not like mine

Your voice, my voice, high or low, loud or soft
Your voice can sing a melody Won't you sing along with me
La la la la la la la la la la la la la la la

Your mind, mind our minds are thinking all the time
Silly thoughts and pretty rhymes
What kind of thoughts are in your mind?

We're the same inside. We love and laugh and cry
We've got hands and feet, hearts that beat, and minds that wonder why

You're you, I'm me. We've got differences and similarities
I like you and I hope you like me
